Reading the number line
A number line is a picture of numbers laid out in order, with equal
distance between each step. Steps to the right count up
(+1); steps to the left count down
(−1).
- Odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 — they cannot be split into two equal groups.
- Even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 — they can be split into two equal groups.
- A multiple of a number is the number times any whole number, e.g. multiples of 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20…
- A number greater than 1 with exactly two factors (1 and itself) is prime: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11…
